FAQ

  • What is #InfluenceTheElection?
#InfluenceTheElection is a nonpartisan initiative that aims to increase midterm voter turnout in young people through social coverage. We believe in the power of online influence to create real world impact and are asking anyone with a following, big or small, to pledge that they will speak to their audience about the importance of the midterms.
  • How does posting on Instagram help increase voter turnout?
Research indicates that young people are more likely to vote if they believe their peers are. #InfluenceTheElection is about creating that feeling. People under 35 go to Instagram more than any other media platform to help us to decide what to wear, where to go and how to think. If audiences are repeatedly being reminded how important the midterms are, general awareness perceived level of significance is increased.
  • Why are the midterms important?
The midterms are a chance to vote to either maintain and strengthen the level of power the Republicans and Donald Trump have, or balance the power and give the Democrats control of congress. The result of the midterms has the capacity to very directly and quickly impact any political policy or cause you care about.
  • Does pledging my following to #InfluenceTheElection register me to vote?
No, it does not. Sadly you are too late to register to vote.
  • If I haven't registered to vote, can I still join #InfluenceTheElection?
Yes, you can. We would recommend focusing on the power that your audience still has, rather than your lack of registration.
  • What happens if I connect my account and then decide I don't want to post?
Nothing will happen. Your influence will continue to be used to express your opinions and/or sell products rather than increase voter turnout. A great shame, really.
  • If I haven't registered to vote, can I still join #InfluenceTheElection?
Check out vote.org to see whether you are still able to register. If you can, PLEASE DO! If not, you can still join #InfluenceTheElection. If you are not able to register we would recommend focusing on the power that your audience still has, rather than your lack of registration.
  • Can I change the Instagram stories you create for me?
We are not responsible for the content of the messages you post but our purpose in creating the stories is to encourage all eligible voters to get to the polls. That said, you can add a personal message for your followers, but we ask that you keep the message about turning out to vote, not about who to vote for. This is strictly a campaign about voting, not for any candidate or political party.
  • Who started #InfluenceTheElection?
We are a company called Fohr. We use online influence to sell makeup, clothes and soda. We wanted to use it to try and change the world.

You have a following, be a leader.
